Services
One person in six of the population is suffering from emotional distress and disturbance at any one time. Most people try to hide their pain and deal with their difficulties themselves. However, a resolution is not always possible, and various symptoms may emerge, from headaches and backaches, to a profound and frightening sense of not being able to cope at home and / or at work. Eighty million working days per annum are lost across the country because of depression, anxiety and stress related symptoms.
Sharing such distress in privacy and confidentiality, with someone outside the situation, can be a relief. Counselling provides space to reflect away from the everyday pressures of a busy life with a person trained to help you.
It can help you to:
- explore the way you think and act, without fear of criticism, rejection or retaliation
- have a clearer understanding of what led you to have a particular problem
- see how you may be repeating patterns of behaviour and thinking that are not helpful to you
- make changes in your life that offer greater freedom in thought and action
How does this work?
The counselling relationship is unique and in many respects unlike any other. The focus of the counselling session is entirely upon you, the client.
Counselling time and space is used solely for the exploration of your concerns, thoughts and feelings. When you first contact us, you will be invited to an initial interview. This will give you a chance to discuss your situation and your concerns with the intake counsellor and we will be able to assess whether we can meet your needs.
If we feel we can offer you a service and if you want to proceed, a counselling contract will be mutually agreed. This will include how often you attend, for how long, how much you pay for these sessions and the terms on which counselling is offered. Wherever possible appointments are made to fit with your working life.
You will then be referred to an appropriate counsellor. Together you will agree when to meet. Normally sessions are weekly, last for fifty minutes and may continue as long as they are needed.
SCC offers a service in Taunton and Bridgwater.
Whilst the Taunton centre is open Monday to Friday, 8.00 am to 8.00 pm, our satellites have restricted hours.
Please let us know when you contact us where you would like to be seen.
