About the counselling service

Somerset Counselling Centre was founded in 1990.

High professional standards are assured and validated through affiliation to the Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF) and membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). SCC gained accredited service status with BACP in 2003.

It is a registered charity and has its own complaints procedure. The Centre is under the guidance of a Management Committee which acts in an advisory capacity and is made up of professionals representing a wide variety of sectors of the community.

The Centre works to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

  • All counsellors have supervision
  • Any personal information you might give to a counsellor is treated in the strictest confidence
  • No information will be passed on to another agency without your permission*

*Unless in exceptional circumstances for example, the requirements of a court of law.

We welcome enquiries from, and aim to offer our services to all people in our community regardless of race, disability, sexual orientation or gender. Our brochure is also available in large print. Contact the Centre for specific enquiries.

SCC provides counselling for individuals and couples, and offers concessions for those who cannot afford to pay the full cost of counselling.

Our service is evaluated using the nationally recognised Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation (CORE) method, as well as actively seeking feedback from our clients
